Resistor color code generator4/10/2023 ![]() If I'm building something and there are resistors all over my bench, that's what I always do. Instead of going blind reading colored bands, the real way to do it is is to measure the resistor with an ohmmeter. This resistor colour code calculator is designed to find the resistance and tolerance values of through-hole resistors. Color scheme generator: monochromatic, analogous, triadic, complementary. 5 bands: Red, yellow, orange, black, brown -> 243 ohms, 1 precision 5-band resistor Yellow, violet, gold, gold, yellow -> 4.7 ohms, 5 - this resistor is calculated with the 4-band rule (the yellow band is ignored). Reading resistor color codes can become easy once you understand the math. It's not much to go on, but that's all the info there is. More 4 band resistor color code examples: E12 and E24 series. That's a tip-off that brown is the tolerance band, 1%. The 3rd digit 2 is the power of 10 factor. 3, 4, 5 and 6 Band Resistor Color Code Calculators Resistor color codes are used to indicate the value of resistance defined by the Radio Manufacturer. That gap is ever so slightly larger than the other gaps. Sometimes an additional band is coded for precise resistor, it indicates a coefficient of temperature (in ppm/Kelvin or ppm/☌) Example: A resistor Yellow,Orange,Red, digits are: 4,3,2. Look at the gap between the last brown band and the previous brown band. The 5-band resistor has a red band at one end and a brown at the other end. When I can't tell the color for sure, I decode the resistor value both ways and pick the one I know is a standard manufactured value (there aren't that many different values, and you get to recognize them after a while). ![]() But sometimes you can't tell brown=1 apart from gold=5%. The colors for the tolerance (silver, gold) are supposed to look different than any of the regular "number-colors". Your first step should be to figure out which band is the tolerance band so you can orient the resistor properly.Ĥ-band resistors have tolerances down to 5%. Sometimes it's very hard to tell which is the starting band of the color code. We will definitely respond. That's a really good question. If you need to know more about the design and development side of the tool, drop a comment. We will iterate the tool based on your feedback. We would like you to test the tool and give us an honest feedback. The “ responsiveness” of this tool is well handled by Bootstrap. Bootstrap is an open source front end development framework. To handle HTML and CSS we used Bootstrap Framework. We have developed the tool using HTML, CSS and Jquery. Try the resistance picker and let us know if it makes your life easier. We have given maximum standard resistor values in this table. You can pick your resistor value from this table and the color code is available in milliseconds. The third part that makes this tool attractive is the “ resistance picker” – a simple table of standard and practically used resistors. We hope we have been successful in implementing our objective in this UI. Such a UI was possible because of the second objective we have applied in design – to keep the mouse movements and clicks minimal. Calculate Resistor Values from Color Codes. You don’t even have to hit a “ submit” button in any case. This JavaScript-based web app comes from my JavaScript Bible books (dating. You see the output changing dynamically respective to the selection you make. The “ mouse movement flow” is supposed to be like – select your band and then select the colors. A 100K Ohm resistor can be identified using the color code of Brown-Black-Yellow-Gold or Brown-Black-Black-Orange-Gold for a five band resistor. You don’t need to scroll down for any selection. The interesting design element of this UI is that it enables you to pick resistor color codes with minimal mouse movement. We have applied thoughts behind design and came up with a UI as you see it now. A clean and easy to use “user interface” is the heart of any web application. ![]() Proj 38 Induction Generator for Variable Speed Wind Energy Conversion Systems Proj 39 Extra High Voltage Long Transmission. Using this international colour coding system the user can determine the value of capacitance of the capacitor including the tolerances. ![]() The second objective was to build a clean and easy to understand “ user interface“. Similar to resistors the colour coding system is also used in the capacitors. ![]() When we planned the tool, our first objective was to develop the tool in “ responsive” model. ![]()
